When to Use Worm Gearboxes Instead of Planetary Gearboxes?

Worm gearboxes offer high reduction ratios in a single stage and, thanks to the worm gear design, provide high self-locking capability—the output shaft remains stationary even without a brake as soon as the motor shuts off. This makes them particularly suitable for lifting and positioning applications where back rotation of the load must be prevented.
On the other hand, when maximum efficiency and minimal installation space are required alongside high dynamics, our planetary gearbox is the ideal alternative.
