esitron positioning control used in stage tech at the Nuremberg State Theater

On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Staatstheater Nürnberg successfully celebrated the premiere of the opera “Pelléas and Mélisande”. The opera house is using a lot of technology for this – including the CPS5 from esitron for various positioning requirements. Specifically, it controls the clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation of the entire stage set of the new opera production in order to present the audience with different views.

The Staatstheater Nürnberg is one of the largest multi-genre theaters in Germany with over 650 employees and around 700 events per season in the fields of opera, ballet, drama and concerts. It also inspires with national and international guest performances. The venues are the Nuremberg Opera House, the Schauspielhaus Nuremberg with three stages and the Meistersingerhalle for concert series by the Nuremberg State Philharmonic Orchestra.

Stage technology plays a crucial role behind the scenes. The technical team ensures that everything runs smoothly, with impressive stage sets, rapid scenery changes and the use of technical effects.

The Nuremberg State Theatre offers its visitors a special opportunity to take a look behind the scenes and learn about the elaborate technical work that brings theater productions to life on stage. On stage technology tours, interested parties can visit the stage, the lighting control room and other exciting places in the opera house. On the “Fascination of Theater” tours, visitors can also learn about the various theater crafts and see how stage sets, props and backdrops are created from materials such as wood, metal and paint.

For positioning requirements, esitron-electronic GmbH from Friedrichshafen supplied the CPS5, a rapid/creep positioning control system, to the Nuremberg State Theater back in 2021. The positioning control system has been used in the opera house since the 2023/24 season.
